This post is on my school friend's wedding in Bangalore which I was fortunate to attend. Couple of friends had come down from Pune and we were all looking forward to meeting each other after so many years :)
We were on a mission to steal Shilpa's husband's shoes, a usual ritual in most North Indian weddings
but quite uncommon in South India. The girls had a perfect plan. I was in the room with Shilpa while she was getting ready for the 'muhurtam' while Neha was all set with the game strategy. She went up to the women who were guarding the shoes and distracted them with her 'sweet' talks. Man, she's got a flare for that, its a childhood talent. She can envelope people in her talks and and completely mesmerize them. hehe....
It worked exactly as planned. The other girls stealthily sneaked out the shoes which they had kept under their feet and hid it in the car in Garima's bag. As soon as they returned, Neha couldn't control her laughter, rather her cheeky cunning smile which immediately caught the attention of the "ladkewale" and they realized how smartly they had been duped :) We all enjoyed the sight of the disappointment on their faces and were looking forward to a grand amount in return for the shoes.
The ball was in our count until lunch time but then later the driver of the car goofed up. He apparently leaked out the information and somehow they got to know. A small kid came running with a pair of shoes. We sure so sure of our secret hideout that we accused them of buying new shoes and refused to accept that they had indeed found it. Later on checking it was confirmed and the look on our faces was worth seeing...But we were unhappy with the way they got it especially opening Garima's bag in the car was bad. It wasn't the right thing to do and they couldn't justify the act whatever be the reason. We had decided to fix the deal at 20K but uncle agreed only for 2K. He later raised it to 3.5K since we were 7 of us 500 each. Shilpa's husband Deepak works in the US so we demanded that they pay in dollars. ;)
We had actually lost interest except for Neha coz she was the one who had so tactfully lured them into her talks and duped them. Finally uncle was so impressed with her that he handed over 7K to her and her attempts were fruitful in the end. With absolutely no effort I got a thousand bucks. Wow... Thanks to Neha and yeah the team too...hehe
I eagerly returned to JNC to tell my friends. They immediately demanded a treat... hehe.. Me and my big mouth!!! But I guess its not a bad idea after all....

Yesterday at the lab :)
It was a usual dinner like everyday and we came back to the lab soon after. Ratul watching his 'Mahabharat', Rahul and Darshan discussing some high fundoo Math stuff and me searching for a Windows machine and a way to get it started. After much debate, we finally managed to find place and connected it to the LAN. Now I tried to access it remotely but the audio won't work. I later moved to the place where we connected it and thought I would use it from there itself. Yet the audio won't work. Now we figure out that audio drivers are missing. Rahul tries to install them from the web. In the mean while Harish walks in with 2 packets of Maggi to cook it on the hot plate in our lab. We were 6 and the packets 2 (that too small ones 45 gm.. hehe :P)
Harish wanted to safeguard it so bad that he was ready to eat it half cooked. But Rahul and Ratul made sure they got their share. Soon Anubhab walks in just to find that Maggi is already over :(
He agreed to make tea for everyone and soon we all had a nice cup of green tea- mint, lemon, ginger flavor. I went to check on my windows machine but no luck. I decided to leave for my room but was kinda bored 2 go alone (chalo mann liya, not bored, scared)
I asked if anyone had plans to leave or at least go for coffee but we all just had tea :( so nah, no luck. Since it had rained that day, I was sure to encounter a few reptiles and mammals on the way.. Luckily I saw Rahul packing up and was glad to find company :)
We just started walking and booom!!!! Lights gone.. The generator switches on but even that small time lag is enough to freak me out. With just trees around the whole place, its pitch dark with squeaking sound of insects everywhere. But in no time lights were on and I peacefully walked to the hostel. Despite waiting for so long, I did nothing fruitful.
I hope I can fix something today, I mean the windows machine...

1st weekend in UK (part 2)
After I finally managed to catch the train, I felt relaxed and thought lets listen to some music. Was a long journey anyway. The train was so empty that I couldn't see anyone else in that coach. I happily enjoyed the music but little did I know that this could land me in trouble.
There was an announcement which I completely ignored. It said that all passengers who wanted to get down at Stonehouse should go to coach no 1. The Stonehouse train station had a very small platform apparently and if you don't go to coach 1 you would have to jump off the train at an unknown forest like place which is far from the platform or rather the station itself. It might seem like an exaggeration but man you gotta see it to believe it. It is smaller than 'Shivaji Nagar' of Pune yaar..
The arrival time was 10:15 pm and hence it wasn't a cool thing to do especially when u r alone. But I had no idea of such an announcement and since there were no co-passengers in that coach I had absolutely no clue. Now one more concern I had was that whether my colleagues would turn up at the station to receive me. Although I had the map I wanted to avoid anymore adventures at least for that day.
Stonehouse is one scary place. I din know that till I got there. Its a small village and by 7 pm things come to a standstill and there are no people on the road. Under these circumstances, I would not have found a taxi or even mortals on the road to ask for directions. Nevertheless I had already landed there and things could not be undone now. I had to face it...
So this was just the background of the story, now lets see what actually happened.
I coolly got down on the platform and found my colleagues waiting for me. They were worried that if I missed the announcement I would be been screwed. Coincidently or rather by God's grace, I got a reservation in coach 1 itself. Most of my friends who landed a little earlier the same day had to walk from coach 5 to 1 and hence I guess I was very lucky.
Now bout the spooky walk to the hotel. It was so quiet that even the sound of footsteps seemed to echo and there wasn't a single soul on the road. My friends happily laughed and exchanged words since they were meeting after a while. They were then told to keep the volume low by one of the friends coz in UK people give police complaints like as though there were a competition for who gives the most. They narrated an incident where the neighbors had complained against them coz they could hear sound of footsteps on the stairs of their house at 10:00 pm. Isn't that ridiculous?
Well, it seemed to have a happy ending at last. Now when I think about it I laugh at the whole episode. But I can't imagine what would have happened if I weren't in coach 1 or if my colleagues did not turn up at the station.

1st weekend in UK
Now after the adventurous experience in Paris, within a few weeks later, I find myself in a similar adventure in UK. Here's how..
I was traveling from Brighton to Stonehouse. I needed to take 2 buses, one train, one underground tube train in London and a long distance train later. The first 3 changes were comfortable. Now comes the fun..
I had to take a train from London Victoria to London Paddington, the underground tube service. I had just a 3 min gap to catch the connecting train. You know how fast these doors close in the trains and there's no way you can intervene by banging at the door or any other way. hehe.. (Apne yahan start banging the bus and it will stop, aisi suvidha wahan kahan)
So there I saw this display at the platform. There were 2 names and one said Paddington. Within no time the alarm starting ringing indicating that doors are closing. Wow I had no option but to quickly get in coz in this 3 min gap I cant take any chances of missing the train. Inside the train I check the map which indicates the route clearly. I find Paddington no where on it. I quickly asked a few people around. They confirmed that I got in to the wrong train!!! I started panicking but tried to remain calm and asked what I could do now.
One of them said get down at the next station and take the train that comes on the opposite platform. I had no choice but to follow the instructions blindly. I quickly got down and started checking the map on the platform and found the appropriate train. Luckily the next train that arrived was the one I was waiting for and I managed to get in. Now I also had to ensure if I could still reach on time to get my long distance connection. No one in the train could tell for sure so I just kept my fingers crossed.
Now don guess that I missed that train. The Lord did have some mercy on me... I reached well in advance, comfortable enough to find my coach and seat before the train departed. I was finally relieved...
But the story isn't over yet.. Continued in the next post...

My 1st weekend in Paris cont'd
So after an adventurous evening in Louvre and the sparkling blue lights of the Eiffel tower, we reached Porte d' Orleans from where our apartment was walkable. (a lil more then a kilometer) But me being me, the lazy goose, I chose to take a bus instead. My friend, with who I missed the train earlier that evening also said she wanted to come with me by bus. So the 2 of us said bubbye to the rest of them and walked towards the bus stop.
Sometimes u just randomly assume some things without asking. We did just that and crossed the road to look for the stop which we thot would take us in the direction towards home. Now we walk and walk but there's no sight of any stop. God knows which turn we took and where, now we were in a place we had never seen before. At least now we were 'sure' we're 'lost'.
So we decide to walk back and trace the same path we came by. On the way we come across weirdos shouting from cars and now, my friend is scared. (Well so was I but I'd rather not say it explicitly) Guess what idea she comes up with. She randomly starts laughing and for no apparent reason. I thot may be she's expressing her fear this way (quite weird ey?) She then says 'if you laugh, at least people won't know that we're lost they'll think we're having fun.'
I realized that she had completely lost it, yet I assured her not to worry and we would reach home safe. We finally managed to reach the spot where we had started from after numerous efforts to ask directions in English which most people did not respond to..
So what do you think went wrong? heehaahaha V din have to cross to look for a stop in the other direction. The stop was right in front of us. Anyhooo, such things happen and later we just laugh at it.
So to sum it all, I chose to take the bus bcoz I din wanna walk... But wat happened?? I walked 4 times the distance and yet spent 1.5 Euros on the bus. Wow that was one eventful, adventurous in the true sense and scary experience.
You're probably wondering what our friends did who would obviously expect us to reach before them when they did not spot us 2 hours after they reached.. They freaked out, no doubt and when they did see us we got a much deserved scolding and witnessed some usual drama like we were about to report to the police etc.. Nah jus kidding, they just said they were gonna call our office manager if we din turn up by 12:00..
Man that would have been worse...

Our Dear Ponnu!
Let me introduce you to Ponnulakshmi from EMU. She's this simple, sweet and bubbly gal who's always ready to help anyone. I keep bugging her with stupid questions related to work on Linux or other trivia but she's never lost patience. Her best quality is that she can get along with absolutely anyone and that too pretty soon.. Its funny to hear her experiences with her guides who are North and South poles apart and how poor Ponnu gets smashed in between. I love the way she calls Anubhab and Ratul 'Moron' and 'Worrrstt' when they bug her. The folks keep irritating her but I know how much they care for her and that they would always stand by her when she needs them... Its a pleasure knowing you Ponnu and knowing how sincere you are I am sure you will make it big... Good Luck and Thanks for helping me through the first few days at JNC....Cheers and keep smiling like you always do..

My 1st weekend in Paris
So this was in Sept'08 with 9 other colleagues in Paris. After a boring week in office we decided to explore some places on the Friday evening. We walked to the Porte d'Orleans metro station and punched our tkts and eagerly rushed towards the train that was waiting at the platform. While 8 of the folks got in, 2 of us- a friend and I were a few feet away when the alarm started ringing and doors started closing. We ran as fast as we could just to see the train vanish in no time before our eyes.
Ok, so now here we are, we are not even sure where we're going coz when you go in groups u don usually bother so much, u jus follow the crowd. Within 2 minutes another train shows up at the platform. Without thinking twice we just got in. Probably shudn't hv done that.
I open the map and wonder where do v need to get down. I ask a few passengers "parlez-vous anglais" meaning do you speak English? People happily enjoyin the sight and grinning. Finally one guy says yes and I ask him which station shud I get down at if I wanna go to Louvre and Eiffel? Now he looks confused and says where exactly do you wanna go, Louvre or Eiffel? I said both, why, aren't they close to each other?
Now don't judge me. I heard my friend saying that we could see the Eiffel Tower from Louvre so I assumed they gotta be nearby. Anyways, now that he told us they are 2 very distant stations I had to decide where to get down. I told my friend lets just chill and even if we don't meet the other folks we'll just hang around, roam for a while and return by the same train and go home. My friend is like r u crazy, its a new place rather new country, we don't know the language have u like lost it?
So we decided to get down at Chatelet, the station from where we needed to take a connecting train to Louvre. And guess what???
We see our colleagues waiting for us at that station. But wait, there are just 6 of them, where are the other 2???they had gone looking for us...haha..
What next??? With no phones it felt like the perfect way to get lost, so adventurous. But they came back soon after seeing that we were no where at the platform.. Now we decided we wud be together no matter wat and make sure no one is left behind. U think that helped.... U bet... Read for what happens next in the next post..

The game of TT
Today the AC forced me to go to my room and get my sweater. While coming back I see Gayathri, Shastry & Harish playing TT. I eagerly went and sat down to watch. Harish looks at me and says 'Hey u better sit there and don come to play'
Now, how mean is that...I din even say I wanna play just wanted to watch :(
And guess wat happens next..
Harish doesn't get a single shot right after that, neither serves nor shots.. Man that's got to be some kinda coincidence why..I happily enjoyed the sight and started booing, teasing and laughing at each shot.. I'm so sure I've bugged him and he's gonna be even more irritated when he reads this... hehe ;)
I played a few games after they left and I shouldn't say it but I think I'm getting better.. Apne muh miya mittoo... Anyways, I'll take off now. More later.. c ya :)

Mission cleaning !!
We were playing our usual game of TT and suddenly Ratul calls Shastry and says come to the lab immediately, its urgent. So I'm wondering what happened suddenly, no one ever got such calls before. Then the 3 of us Shastry, Rahul n I hurriedly walk back to the lab and when we enter, everyone is in an entirely different "avtar"
People with brooms, rags, mopper, a bucket filled with water kept at the center of the room. When I entered I was wondering have I come to the right place. No sooner than I entered did I find a broom in my hand i don even no how. I played sport and started cleaning, just then Shastry says 'don sweep like an Italian'. Yeah right, here I was trying to do this despite my dust allergies n this is wat i get to hear. Jus kiddin, they jus wanna pull each other's legs all the time. The folks in the other lab got housekeeping ppl to clean while we decided we wud do it ourselves and do it much better too... The AC in the other lab was working sinxce yesterday and those guys were doing "Maaz" about it. Now that ours started working too we refused to let them in and conspired to start a war between the 2 labs..
Now why did i use the word "war"? more details in my next post... Keep reading.

The day at the hospital
This was on 6th May when I had to get a fitness certificate from the Medical Superintendent of a Govt hospital prescribed by the institute. I left in the morning and reached the place by 10:30 (considering that Govt hospitals don start functioning before that or at least the administration dept)
To my dismay, there was this long line mostly youngsters my age waiting to meet the Medical Superintendent. They were some 10 people in all applying for some govt job in the forest dept. I joined them in the line eagerly awaiting my turn so that I could get back to the Institute before lunch time. We soon realized that the line isn't moving. I went to find out why. The security guy says that the Doc is in the operation theatre. We assumed he would come soon and just waited.
Now some random folks started a conversation with me asking where i was from and why i needed this certificate etc.. I kept telling them "Kannada gothila" meaning i don know Kannada but they just din seem to understand.. They were asking weird stuff like wat is ur opinion on Engineering? Why did u take up Mechanical being a girl? etc.... which I was in no mood to answer. It might have seemed like a good way to while away time while waiting in the line but trust me i have never been so bored before. I finally pretended to sleep by just sitting there n closing my eyes to avoid the conversation. luckily there were chairs and we din have to stand there all the while.
Soon it was lunch time and the Doc still hadn't shown up. We asked when he could be expected to which they said he would come now but mit leave for lunch soon after. aww what the hell, for how long do we have to wait was the kind of expression on all the faces. He finally came at around 2:00 pm and they started letting people in. My turn was just about to come, and I removed my footwear to get in, when he tells me please wait for some time and I came back to where I was.
There was this lady who was letting people in and she seemed to know Tamil. I overheard her say to someone that the guy has 2 meetings one at 3 and another soon after. I requested her to let me in before the meeting started coz u never know how long these kinda meetings can last. She was kind enough to ask the guy several times if she could let us in but he kept saying ask them to wait . Poor thing she couldn't have done more.
And so while waiting I came across 2 other guys with the same envelope as mine the JNCASR envelope. I asked them if they were also new like me at JNC to which they said yes and soon I had some company. One of them was from EMU itself though under a different faculty member and another from a different dept. We spoke for some time and soon realized that it was way past lunch time and we would be hungry. So we told the lady we would be back soon after grabbing a quick bite. it was nice to find good company at last especially after the funny group of people we met in the morning. We jointly made fun of the weirdos we met in the morning and the kind of irritations questions they asked. One of them tells me that I would call them also boring and irritating when I meet other people just like the way I mocked the other group. I said I wouldn't do that coz here I was the one who started the conversation and kept it going. It wasn't by force.
When we came back we discovered that the second meeting had started. It was really irritating now. It was close to 5:00 pm when I told them that i would enter the room and tell that i have a bus at 5:30 and if i miss this bus it would be really hard for me to go back. We had wasted the whole day in this and although it would have seemed like a day off its not the best way to spend an off day.. We were not sure of the procedure whether there would be any check up or is it just paper work. We had assumed by then that we would have to come again the next day.
Finally we were let in and it was ridiculous. The guy asked mundane details like height, weight, blood group, etc.. and filled it in a form. It was just a matter of a signature and stamp.. And for this we waited the whole day, but we were glad we wouldn't have to come again and its finally over..

How i started blogging...
Well its just recent. I shifted to Bangalore and stay away from home in the hostel. I love to talk and share stuff with friends and family so I'm fond of writing mails. Now, with each day's experience my mails started getting longer and longer mostly with my description of trivial incidents during the day. Couple of friends and cousins suggested I start blogging instead of writing all the trivia in mail. I thought its not a bad idea especially coz ppl can read at leisure. So here I am... Keep your comments coming in..
Yours Sincerely,
Krits.

Story bout the 'red socks'
Here's what happened this morning during our coffee break. Before I begin I'll just brief the background. Let me introduce you to a friend in the dept. She's from Delhi and it seems ppl wear socks in all seasons there (that's what someone said, i dunno hw far its true) and they are mostly too colorful and grab a lot of attention it seems. yeah, so why am I saying all this irrelevant stuff now????
So during the break someone told me 'oh so u r the 'abc' of our group. (you know who) now why was that, its coz i was wearing bright red colored socks.
Now another friend Gayathri adds flavor to this topic of discussion and asks Dr. Rama, what do u think bout Krithika's red socks? To which she says "I think they r very 'cute'." She immediately added 'I also like some xyz Prof's hairstyle, its unconventional n we shud have more ppl like this in r dept' (this prof has long silky locks)
wow!!! now I am wondering y ppl r going to such extents to embarrass me. der's no connection to socks and hairstyle for heaven sake and what's such a big deal bout red colored socks anyway. Now i agree it would look gay on a guy. But one thing's for sure.. I don think I have the guts to wear those socks again!!!
